For years, scholars have debated whether Władysław Opolczyk—the Hungarian palatine, governor of Ruthenia, and founder of the Pauline monastery at Jasna Góra—had his own residence in the capital of his duchy. Many historians studying Opole have denied the existence of two castles in the city, arguing that the only seat of the Opole dukes was the castle on Ostrówek. In my research, I have demonstrated that Duke Władysław had his own castle on Opole’s "Górka," the city's highest elevation, where the surviving gate tower still stands today. My study also includes an original reconstruction of the castle’s probable appearance, which I presented in my book The Upper Castle in Opole. During the poster session, I would like to showcase the current state of research, key research postulates regarding Władysław Opolczyk’s castle, and my own vision of its appearance.
